I'm a Belieber! ✨

Monday musings about wellness, business, marketing, and life.

Reader,

If you've been on the internet at all for the past week, you'll surely have seen something about Justin Bieber's performance at Coachella. And probably several warm to very hot takes about whether it was lazy or a perfect expression of his art in this moment.

I land on the latter of those two opinions, and while I'd love to share the many reasons why I thought the performance was so important, what I really want to talk about is what my daughter said to me yesterday when we were talking about the reactions we've been seeing online.

She said, "We're OG fans, I remember when I was in elementary school and I had those Justin Bieber socks and the other kids teased me all the time."

Yep. I remember those socks. I didn't realize she got teased for wearing them.

She went on,

"But, I knew then that he was the real deal."

She DID NOT care about being teased, she was a Belieber.

We are, indeed, a family of Beliebers. And that performance at Coachella was FOR the fans and we ate up every single moment of it.

A sweet vindication one might say, or in Justin's words, "They try to say I'm outta my mind… But now they singin' every line."

This is SO similar to what it's like when you're starting your business.

You have to be a one person fandom for yourself. No matter how cringe. No matter how much it feels like you're the only person on the planet who knows how awesome you are. And that can be really freaking hard.

But, one day you'll have your Coachella moment. And it'll all be worth it.

HOW IT'S GOING WITH THE YOGA BIZ

Speaking of being your own one-person fandom. This is exactly where I'm at with my yoga business right now. Me, my laptop, a dream, and my 99 TikTok followers.

My focus this week has been on messaging & social media. I've been knee deep in messaging docs and multiple conversations with Claude.

One of the biggest challenges is standing out in a very saturated corner of social media. There is A LOT of yoga content already.

But, I don't see a lot of yoga for midlife women, regular bodies, and accessible practices. There's a lot of yoga for young, thin, athletic bodies AND there's also a fair bit out there for marginalized bodies.

I feel like there's a niche audience I can speak to really well that are intrigued by the idea of yoga, want to practice more, but also feel a bit out of place or misaligned with what they're seeing on social media.

I'm still hot and cold on Instagram, and have been finding my videos perform far better on Tik Tok. So, I'm putting effort into both places. I started my 30 day sales + visibility challenge (you can do it yourself here) and will keep track of the results as I go.

Here's where I'm starting:

Tik Tok starting 99 followers.
IG (I'm reviving my old yoga/coaching account) starting 1536 followers.

Right now I'm loosely following Shannon McKinstrie's strategies for Instagram and Lana Kearney for Tik Tok. I have a tendency to hyperfixate on this stuff, so I'm really really trying to have fun with it.

What are your feelings about social media lately? I'd love to know what's working for you.

Until next week,

Robin
